Start construction Marriott hotel at Health Innovation Campus Boxmeer
First building marks the start of the campus’s development
Construction has begun on the first building at Health Innovation Campus Boxmeer: a dual-branded hotel by Marriott International. With the driving of the first pile, the campus has become physically visible for the first time. The start of construction was marked by a ceremonial event, during which the parties involved jointly gave the go-ahead with a symbolic hotel key card. Construction was officially launched with a check-in.
The Health Innovation Campus Boxmeer focuses on bringing together healthcare, technology and innovation in a single environment. The start of construction marks the first visible step in an environment where organisations are working on innovation in healthcare and health.
The hotel, situated at the main entrance to the campus, will play a central role within the campus by facilitating accommodation, meetings and collaboration between businesses, knowledge institutions and healthcare organisations. The dual-branded concept comprises 295 rooms under the Courtyard by Marriott brand and 123 serviced apartments under the Residence Inn by Marriott brand.
Robert Juntke, Regional Vice President Marriott Western Europe: “The start of construction at Health Innovation Campus Boxmeer marks an exciting milestone for Marriott International. This hotel is designed to be more than a place to stay – it will serve as a welcoming gateway and meeting point for the campus, supporting collaboration between healthcare, technology and knowledge partners. We are proud to be part of a project that combines innovation, sustainability and connectivity, and look forward to contributing to the long‑term success of this unique ecosystem.”
The building was designed by UNStudio and is inspired by the surrounding UNESCO Maasheggen landscape. Featuring a conference centre, restaurant, bar and green terraces, the hotel will support the campus’s vibrancy and the activities of the organisations that gather here. The opening is expected to take place in summer 2028.
For Necron Group, the start of construction marks the first visible step on the campus.
Gerard van Liempt, CEO of Necron Group: “With the start of construction, we are demonstrating that the development of the campus has truly begun. Step by step, we are building an environment here where healthcare, technology and innovation come together.”
This is also an important development for the municipality of Land van Cuijk.
Maarten Jilisen, Councillor for Economic Affairs, Municipality of Land van Cuijk: “This is an important step for our region. With the Health Innovation Campus Boxmeer, we are bringing healthcare, innovation and the economy closer together. The start of construction shows that the plans are now taking shape and contributes to the further development of the region.”
The campus is part of a broader movement in the region, in which collaboration is becoming increasingly important. The region is committed to a future-proof economy, with a focus on innovation, talent and the connection between healthcare, knowledge institutions and the business community.
Boxmeer’s location, situated between the Nijmegen and Oss regions and with good transport links to Germany, makes the campus easily accessible to both regional and international organisations. Its proximity to Eindhoven Airport and Düsseldorf Airport, as well as the ease of access to Schiphol, contribute to the location’s international accessibility.
