New phase for Health Innovation Campus Boxmeer
Marriott International hotel permit finalised
The development of the Health Innovation Campus Boxmeer (HICB) has reached a significant new milestone. As of 26 February, the environmental permit for the dual-branded Marriott International hotel in Boxmeer has become final. This marks the official launch of the campus development, set to provide a strong boost to the region. Construction of the hotel will start in the summer of this year, with completion scheduled for September 2027.
Designed by renowned architectural firm UNStudio, the hotel draws inspiration from the historic Maasheggen landscape and will feature two distinct hospitality concepts: Courtyard by Marriott, offering 295 hotel rooms, and Residence Inn by Marriott, with 123 long-stay apartments. Beyond high-quality accommodation, the hotel will include a lively ground floor with terraces, modern dining facilities, and a conference centre. As the first completed development on HICB, it will serve as a cornerstone of the health innovation hub, fostering collaboration among businesses, healthcare institutions, and research organisations in an interactive environment.
Health Innovation Campus Boxmeer brings together various organisations within a dynamic ecosystem focused on accelerating healthcare and life sciences innovation. This emphasis on health and technology aligns seamlessly with the key economic priorities of the municipality of Land van Cuijk, which aims to strengthen the region’s economic position through the campus.
From April 2025, an information centre will open on-site, where visitors can learn more about the opportunities within HICB. The surrounding green space will offer an early glimpse of the future campus park.
Necron Group is developing the campus in close collaboration with strategic partners, including Maasziekenhuis Pantein and the municipality of Land van Cuijk. Alderman Maarten Jilisen is pleased that the first physical elements of the Health Innovation Campus are now taking shape after a long preparatory phase. “With the imminent start of construction on the Marriott hotel, we are taking a crucial first step in developing our campus for health and technology. This is not just a place to stay; the building is seamlessly integrated into the green and innovative surroundings. It represents a perfect fusion of economy, innovation, and nature. The hotel’s development makes the campus’ potential more tangible and serves as inspiration for other entrepreneurs to join this growing hub for health and tech.”
The first development on Health Innovation Campus Boxmeer features a U-shaped architectural design that opens towards the park at the entrance of the campus, naturally integrating into the green landscape. The dual-branded Marriott hotel, designed by UNStudio, is inspired by the historic UNESCO-listed Maasheggen landscape. This natural heritage is reflected in the contemporary design of the building. Lars van Hoften of UNStudio explains: “The hotel features a living green façade, inspired by the traditional craft of hedge weaving. The building borders the park, which will serve as a central gathering space for the campus community.” The green façades not only define the visual identity of the hotel but also contribute to the biodiversity of the campus.
With the permit finalised and construction set to begin in September 2025, the campus is making a significant step towards a future where healthcare innovation and technology go hand in hand.
Initial discussions have already begun with potential tenants from the medical sector, supply chain industries, education, and laboratory fields looking to establish a presence on the campus.
